G-5 & A-3 Domestics Prevailing Wage Update

Written by Kathy Webb | 8/23/12 7:41 PM

G-5 and A-3 domestics are personal attendants who are citizens of a foreign country admitted to the United States to perform domestic service functions for other foreign nationals who are working in the US on diplomatic visas.

The US Department of State has regulations in place to provide for fair wage and work conditions for these domestics. Among other regulations, the domestics must be paid on an hourly basis no less than the greater of the minimum wage or the "prevailing wage" as determined by the US Department of Labor.

The US DOL publishes prevailing wage data on an annual basis, from 1-July through 30-June of the following year.

The World Bank and International Monetary Fund have notified their Washington DC staff that they must make hourly wage payments of $8.80 effective August 1, 2012. Retroactive adjustments must be made for any prior payroll in August. If you sponsor a G-5 or A-3 domestic, please look for official notification in your office email for particulars.
